DEATHRIDE OF THE GIGANTS

The Americans weren't the only pilots who
found the Me-323 "Gigant" transports easy
prey. On 22 April 1943, just four days
after the "Palm Sunday Massacre," three
squadrons of Kittyhawks and one squadron
of Spitfires (No. 2,4,5 and No. 1
respectively, SAAF) intercepted a last
attempt at reinforcement for North
Africa. This intercept was made possible
by an Ultra decoded message. 36
Kittyhawks and 8 Spitfires faced off
against about 30 of the Me323 transports,
escorted by about a dozen Bf109s, Macchi
C202s and Re2001s. In the ensuing
slaughter, 31 transports and nine escorts
were downed. The Luftwaffe ceased
daylight resupply operations.

MISSION

As a C202 escorting pilot, you must stop
the South Africans from slaughtering the
badly needed troop reinforcements for the
Afrika Korps. Consider this mission a
success if at least two of the transports
(represented by Ju88A4s in the scenario)
survive.

NOTES

This is a day mission.
