Rhine Sweep

WEATHER: Niteowl
INSERTS: None
RADAR: SCR-720 AI (map usable)

The invasion of France had robbed the
German night-fighter arm of an essential
requirement - time. Allied occupation of
France gave Bomber Command the oppor-
tunity to outflank the network of German
ground radar installations and front-line
night-fighter bases. As a result,
precious time which was needed to deter-
mine where the bombers would attack and
to route German night-fighters to the
target was lost. This hole in the defenses
was haphazardly plugged by the shuffling
of various staffeln to operate over the
Rhine - an easily recognizeable feature,
even at night. By late 1944, P61 Black
Widow night fighters were flying from
French soil. Usually flying alone, they
sought out enemy aircraft on patrol and
attacked them.

ORDERS:
Fly your P61A on a route south along the
Rhine, engaging any targets of oppor-
tunity.
