JAGDGESCHWADER 2 VS. 56TH FIGHTER GROUP

The 56th US fighter group had been
flying P-47 Thunderbolt since this air-
craft arrived in April 1943 and had no
other love. This unit, affectionally
dubbed "Wolfpack" included many famous
aces, Gabresky (33 kills), Johnson
(28 kills), Schilling (32 kills) and
their C.O. Zemke with 28 kills.
JG 2 "Richthofen" was created in the late
1930ies with pilots of the World War One
Squadron. As Hitler attacked Russia, most
Jagdgeschwader were withdrawn to the
eastern front and JG 2, together with
JG 26 held the channel front alone for
many months and was home of several aces,
most notably its Kommodore, Walter Oesau
with 125 kills. It had been equipped with
Fw 190s in 1941 and used them since.

YOUR MISSION

In this mission your P-47s will meet a
flight of the most experienced FW-190
pilots of JG 2. You start slightly above
the enemy flight, so you will have the
tactical advantage.
Remember, if you are badly shot up,
the way across the channel is long!
