DEFEND B-17S FROM HE 162S

The Heinkel He 162 "Volksjager" was a
very small German jet fighter designed
and built during the closing months of
World War II. As a desperate last-gasp
effort to stem the overwhelming tide of the
Allied bombing offensive, the leaders of
the Third Reich envisioned thousands of
Hitler youth defending their homeland in
the midget He 162s. However, due largely
to the impact of Allied attacks on industrial
centers, production of the components
necessary for mass assembly of the
Volksjager was brought to a near
stand-still.

YOUR MISSION

Because of more and more appearance of
jets in late 1944 and early 1945, some
US fighter groups were ordered to fly
close escort for the heavy bombers to
provide better cover for them. So you
and your wingman are diverted for the
close escort mission. Unfortunately
you will meet several of the lately in-
troduced He 162s. Though most of its
pilots are unskilled kids, they will
be numerical superior to your flight.
As the mission starts, several He 162s
attempt to make an attack on the B-17s.
(Look behind yourself to see them)
