DOGFIGHT THE NEWEST GERMAN JET PLANE

Although not primarily intended for one-
on-one engagements with Allied fighters,
the He 162 proved on at least one
occasion that it was able to hold its own
against the best the Americans had to
offer. When a P-51 pilot encountered the
tiny German jet at low altitude in April of
1945, he found that the Volksjager was
able to turn and climb as well as his
Mustang, and bettered his mount in
acceleration and level speed.
It would also have been interesing how
the He 162 would have performed against
other allied fighters. For example, let's
take the P-38 Lighting. The German
fighter would have had a top speed more
than 100 miles higher and its rate of
climb would also have been faster.

YOUR MISSION

Your flight of four P-38s is on a free-
ranging-fighter-sweep over Bavaria. You
will have to hold your own against the
lately introduced He 162. Be aware that
you might also meet other "Secret Weapons",
as JV 44 and I./JG 1 had their bases in
the area around Munich.
