RAILYARD NIGHTSTRIKE

On February 13, 1943, a force of Pe-2's
led by LTC Federov of the 92nd Bomber
Regiment was given a crisis mission late
in the day: a train with tanks and SP
guns had just arrived at the Chunushino
Railyard in the Donbass region. It had
to be destroyed at all costs, even at
the risk of the loss of the regiment due
to the impending early winter evening.
Enroute to the target, the Pe-2s were hit
by three flights of Bf-109s, but dense
return fire from the massed guns of the
bomber formation drove them off. At last
light, just before the target, seven more
Bf-109s struck repeatedly, but the
bombers held formation and began dive-
bombing from 2,000 meters altitude.
After a period of "continuous orbit"
attacks, the railyard was in flames. Six
more Bf-109s appeared in the darkness,
and the Pe-2s were out of ammunition.
Undaunted, the Russians flew off into the
darkness and escaped.

MISSION

You must destroy at least 6 of the
buildings in the railyard to allow
success for the combined arms
breakthrough.

NOTES
