COBRA STRIKE

On the 16th of September 1944, Soviet
forces in the Warsaw area were being held
up by 3 artillery batteries in firing
positions on a hill 1.5 km southeast of
Jablonna. German fighters kept
interfering with Soviet ground attack
aircraft and bombers, so General I.M.
Dzusov decided to clear the batteries
with fighters alone. Captain B.G. Deyev
of the 352nd Fighter Regiment took 12
Airacobras into the target area at 2,000
meters altitude. Eight of the "Kobrys"
were loaded with bombs and four were
given the mission of close escort.
Four Focke-Wulf fighters in the
area departed, assuming the Russian were
only flying a sweep mission.

MISSION

As you are about to depart from the area,
your wingman notices that several of the
Russian Airacobras have bombs! Protect
the Warsaw batteries from the inbound
strike.

NOTES

This is a normal day mission.
