BOMBER TO BOMBER

Sometimes Soviet and German bombers got
into dogfights with each other. On
October 20 1943, a force of Pe-2's led
by Hero of the Soviet Union I.S. Polbin
had just finished an attack against the
Aleksandriya railyard. Encountering
cloud cover at 600 meters, he decided to
bomb from below the clouds. After the
strike, he noticed 18 Ju-87s flying in
trail at the same altitude, with some
just taking off from the nearby Berezovka
airfield. He immediately ordered an
attack. Lieutenant Plotnikov and aerial
gunner/radio operator Serebryanskiy each
shot down a Ju-87 on the first pass, as
did General Polbin. Senior Lt. Belyavin
led a group to attack the planes taking
off, causing two to collide. The
escorting Airacobras joined in, but 14
Me-109s came to the defense of the
hapless Stukas. The melee lasted seven
minutes. The Germans lost 9 Ju-87s, 3
Me-109s and a Focke-Wulf.

MISSION

Prevent the Fascist bombers from
taking off. Use this rare opportunity
for your Petlyakovs to gain a few "kills"
against the enemy bombers.

NOTES

This is a cloudy mission. Use
"rainy.pac" as the weather if you have
it.
