The Ju388-series was intended to be
the definitive German prop-driven
night fighter for 1945. Sanctioned
by Feld-Marschall Milch instead of
the He219, the Ju388 had a much more
destructive armament than its Ju88G-7
predecessor, and was better-defended
than the competing He219. The J-2
airframe was to be the first of the
388-series to incorporate the
MG131Z/FA 15 remote-controlled tail
turret. The Ju388J-4 was a further
development which called for stripping
out all weapons and mounting a large
weapons tub ("Waffenwanne") housing
2 50mm MK114 cannon underneath the
fuselage. This would have been a devas-
tating round if used against bombers,
and could have also performed well as
a nocturnal ground attack weapon to
destroy parked aircraft and/or flak
towers.
ORDERS: You will by flying a Ju388J-4
on a mission to intercept British bom-
bers bound for Munster. This will be
the first use of Ju388J-4s in a zer-
storer role. Many Nachtjagdkorps offi-
cers believe that it's firepower may
make it the ultimate zerstorer. Just
watch your ammunition - the supply is
limited!
