"BANZAI" BANZAFF

On 1 November 1944, Oberfeldwebel Willi
Banzaff of Kommando Nowotny barely escaped
with his life when he intercepted a group
of bombers returning from a mission to
bomb Gelsenkirchen and Ruedesheim. All
alone in his ME262, he destroyed one P-51
of the 20th Fighter Group, then bore in
toward the B-17s. However, P-51s of the
20th and 352nd FGs, as well as P-47s of
the 56th FG swarmed all over the sky, each
trying to get a shot at the jet. Banzaff
quickly dove to 10,000 feet to try and
escape the suicidal position, but the P-
47s and P-51s opened fire at long range
and scored hits, forcing Banzaff to bail
out at 8,000 feet. Despite being strafed
in his chute by 2 P-51s, he survived (to
be killed three days later.)

                 MISSION

You are to penetrate the fighter screen
and shoot down as many bombers as possible
without losing your plane. Remember, you
are all alone!

                  NOTES

If you can kill 3 bombers and survive by
parachuting, consider it a victory.
