BEEHIVE.TXT (From the Biggles war diary)

Another in a series of historical engagements for Their Finest Hour. This
mission was created on the Amiga version of BoB but should work on the IBM
and Atari ST versions as well. These missions are based on actual events
and were meant to compliment the canned missions that come with the game.
I used the battle maps from the book 'The Battle of Britain' by Richard
Townsend Bickers as a source for these flights. I have tried to stay
as close as possible to the actual events as the game would allow.

FLIGHT BRIEFING

Historical Engagement:
August 11 was a day of many skirmishes between the RAF and the Luftwaffe.
One of the early morning engagements occured at 0700hrs. Sailor Malan, who
was regarded as one of the best pilots of the war, was leading Spitfire
squadron No.74 (Tiger squadron) on patrol when they ran into two formations
of Bf109's and Bf110's attacking the Dover balloon barrage. Of course in
the game there is no balloon barrage, so we'll have to pretend. By the end
of the day the RAF lost 27 planes while the Luftwaffe lost 36.

Start Location:
In your Spitfire 16,000 above the channel.

Flight Plan:
You and your two wingmen are attacking a formation of 30 planes, 15 each
of 109's and 110's. Your wingmen for the most part will be going after the
110's, so your job will be to take on the 109's.

Home Airfield:
Sector airfield at Hornchurch

Notes:
In this mission I was trying to simulate the massive furballs that took place
during the war, with planes and shots coming in from everywhere. The only
problem with this is that it is very taxing on slower (10mzh and less) PC's.
If it bogs down too much, try removing one or two groups. On the other hand,
if you have a speed demon, then try filling up the screen with fighters. For
more of a challenge, change all of the Luftwaffe pilots to Top Ace and see
if you can last longer than me (about 2 minutes).

Hope you enjoy this mission.
