         The Fieseler Fi103 "REICHENBERG" IV

                 HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
In the summer of '44, it was obvious that desperate measures
were required to achieve victory. There was a flight test of
a manned version of the V-1 Flying Bomb, called the Fieseler
Fi 103 "Reichenberg". It was basically a V-1 with a cockpit
just in front of the pulse-jet intake, and the normal V-1
warhead of 850 kg. Maximum speed was 497 mph at 8,000 feet,
with propulsion by the normal Argus As 014 pulse-jet. The
pilots were to be known as "Selbstopfermanner" (i.e. self-
sacrifice men, actually a good term for all Luftwaffe pilots
in '45 <G>) Hanna Reitsch, the famous female test pilot, flew
one in autumn '44. The concept was to fly it to a "high-
payoff" target and then abandon at the last instant. When
you see a picture of this ship, it would seem difficult if
not impossible to bail out successfully. By October '44 175
Fi103 missiles had been produced, but the program was stopped
and none were used operationally.

You will notice there are no weapons listed---your craft is
the weapon! The file uses a modified He162 cockpit that has
FW190 side views, but the plane will appear as a V1 <grin>
with a pulsejet <grin>. The idea is to pick a large building
in the target area and bail out at the last instant...you may
have to slow down at the end, because you can't bail out at
speeds over 400 mph. You will be a P.O.W. at this point,
but a special team of commandos led by K. Heitmann's FIX1A
batch file will release you shortly. <Grin>.
