WHAT'S NEW WITH VERSION 2.0??
-----------------------------
 Since Version 1.0, I've been doing some more experimenting and checking and
it seems like the American Hispano 20mm Cannon just has too much kick. Clarke
Davis frum the RIME-Net FLIGHTSIM Conference brought it to my attention that
the Hispano 20mm was overpowered. I checked and found he was correct. With
(9) damage points per shell hit, the single-barrelled Hispano had more hit
power than the twin-barrelled German Mk151 20mm Cannon (with equal muzzle
velocity/range as the Hispano), which only has (4) damage points per hit - so
I dropped the Hispano down to a more reasonable (6) points. No more German
fighters being vaporized with a quick burst. (Thanx Clarke!)

 Another thing I have been playing with is the .50cal guns in the B-17F/G. It
seems like the auto-gunners wait far too long to open up on incoming German
planes, not firing until they're right on top of them, by which time the
German 30mm Cannons have shredded their engines. I looked and found that the
.50cal guns had a muzzle velocity/range that is way too low. The stock value
is 2400, whereas the real life muzzle velocity is 2900. Since in SWOTL the
Muzzle Velocity and Range of the B-17 .50cal guns are combined in one 2-byte
Hex value, I have increased it to 2600 and found that the auto-gunners open
up at greater ranges than before, and now my bomber crews are downing Me109's
and FW190's here and there, whereas previously, they didn't get any kills at
all and were being shot down in great numbers. They still get shot down, but
not like they used to. <Evil GrIn> Why didn't I make it 2900?? Because, as I
said, the Range is combined with the Muzzle Velocity, and I didn't want to
distort reality all to hell and gone.

None of these planes are based in historical fact, so far as I know. I made
them up because it suited me to do so. I have altered the ordnance loadouts
and added armor on the fuel tanks and engines. Performance specs were pretty
much left stock.

To better explain the armor on the Engines....there are three different two-
byte (Hex) locations in the .SPC file that determine damage:

24-25: Amount of damage taken before plane engine explodes
26-27: Amount of damage taken before plane engine begins to burn
28-29: Amount of damage taken before plane engine begins to smoke

The Following table shows the various ratings of aircraft:
-----------------------------
Stock P-38J:  270 / 110 / 85
Stock P-47D:  253 / 140 / 110
Stock P-51D:  253 / 80  / 60
Stock P-80 :  253 / 90  / 70
-----------------------------

 I left the first number alone, and increased the second & third numbers by
an average of 25 so that these planes would be a *bit* more survivable, but
still very much capable of being downed.

B17F.EXP = B-17F/2
B17G.EXP = B-17G/2
P38H.EXP = P-38H/2
P38J.EXP = P-38J/2
P47C.EXP = P-47C/2
P47D.EXP = P-47D/2
P51B.EXP = P-51B/2
P51D.EXP = P-51D/2
P80D.EXP = P-80D/2  (Ground-Attack variant)

How to use these files: Copy them into the \SWOTL\AC direktory. Make sure
to rename the existing *.SPC files in the \SWOTL\AC direktory to a .BAK
extension before doing the following below. That way if you think these
planes suck, you can easily delete my files & restore the original versions.

Example:

REN P80.SPC P80.BAK (Rename original .SPC file to a .BAK extension)

 - then -

COPY P80D.EXP C:\SWOTL\AC\P80.SPC /V

B-17F/2 -- B-17G/2
------------------
Heavier armor on engines & fuel tanks, increased traverse range for the tail
gun, and beefed up the armor on the gunner stations. I also increased the
hit power of the twin-gun turrets since they had the same hit rating and rate
of fire as the single-gun stations. This didn't seem right to me, and I
noticed that it was very difficult to knock Axis planes down even with
extended bursts that were on-target, so I upped the hit power from 1 to 2.
Works better now but I still get shot down regularly.

P-38H/2 -- P-38J/2
------------------
Both of these have functional speed brakes and I added the option of having
2x165gal drop tanks on the Inner rack and 6xBazooka Rockets on the Outer
rack. Armor on the fuel tanks & engines increased.

        Center Rack: None
        Inner Rack:  2x1000lb Bombs / 2x2000lb Bombs / 2x165gal Drop Tanks
        Outer Rack: 6xBazooka Rockets / 2x165gal Drop Tanks

P-47C/2 -- P-47D/2
------------------
Didn't have to futz with the armor much on these, as the P-47 was already
the tuffest bird flying in WWII. Added the option of 2x165gal Drop Tanks on
the Inner Rack for both the "C" & "D" models.

        Center Rack: 1x200gal Drop Tank / 1x2000lb Bomb
        Inner Rack: 2x1000lb Bombs / 2x165gal Drop Tanks
                     6xBazooka Rockets ("D" Model Only)
        Outer Rack:  None

P-51B/2 -- P-51D/2
------------------
Changed armor ratings from 253/80/60 to 253/125/100, which is kinda blatant,
but I got very tired of taking a single hit to the engine and having to bail
over Germany. F*** Realism. I think this is an acceptable balance between
realism and playability. If you don't agree, don't use it. I added the
option of a 1x200gal Drop Tank for the Center Rack & Dive Brakes for the "B"
model, since the P-51B was reworked into a dive-bomber called the A-36A
Apache. I also added a 20mm Hispano Cannon to the "B" model that fires thru
the prop hub. The "D" already had Bazooka rockets, I added them to the "B".

        Center Rack: 1x2000lb Bomb / 1x200gal Drop Tank
        Inner Rack: 2x1000lb Bombs / 2x75gal Drop Tanks
                     6xBazooka Rockets ("D" Model Only)
        Outer Rack:  None

P-80D/2
-------
I call this the "D2" model, Beefed up the armor on the fuel tanks and the
engine, Speed Brakes are functional. Same (6)x.50cal guns but ammo increased
from 250 to 400rds, and I added a 20mm Hispano Cannon. The .50cal guns fire
with a narrow twin tracer pattern, the 20mm cannon with a single tracer.

        Center Rack: 200gal Drop Tank

        Inner Rack:  2x1000lb Bomb

        Outer Rack: 2x165gal Drop Tanks / 6xBazooka Rockets
