The files included with this information will allow you to create a stand
alone German Heinkel He111H-16 bomber out of a highly patched B17F file.

The HE111 missions involve copying the PAC files from the HE111 in BOB over
the top of the B17.PAC files. Unfortunately only the outside appearance
changes. All internal views are those from the normal B-17 and some of the
PAC files from BOB do not convert to SWOTL.

There are some strange visual effects you will notice with these He111 files
in SWOTL, such as planes flying sideways or bottom first. These are due to
the slight differences in the programs and the PAC files. The overall effect
looks quite good and is effective. The HE111s will appear in black and gray
instead of the usual two-tone green and blue of the planes in SWOTL. Again
this is due to the differences between BOB and SWOTL.

The SPC file has been created out of heavily patched B17F.EXP file and has
many changes in it. On notable change is that you will only have two engines.
Again, unfortunately, they will both be on the left wing due to limitations
in the conversion of the plane and the engine instrument switch is deactivated
as well.

The new HE111.EXP file has been created using the information from the book
"Warplanes of the Third Reich" by William Green. My 20 year old copy was
published by Doubleday publishing, but I think it is now published by a new
company.

My He111.EXP file models an He111H-16, which could carry 32x 110 lbs bombs,
or 8x 551 lbs bombs internally. I've modified the two types of US bombs to
reflect the German counterpart explosive power, so the 6-1600 lbs bombs are
the 110 lbs bombs and the 8-1000 lbs bombs are the 551 lbs German bombs.
The planes defensive weaponry has been modified a bit. Since the Heinkel did
not have a tail gunner or either of the cheek guns near the nose the
ammunition for these locations was removed. The He111H-16 had a 20mm MG FF
cannon mounted in the nose for the gunner instead of the usual 7.9mm MG. This
weapon is particular devastating on Allied aircraft in SWOTL. The top electro-
mechanical turret and the belly gunner position had 13mm MG151 guns and the
two waist positions had standard 7.9mm MGs. It was not possible to keep the
ball turret from working in the conversion so my new plane gains a bit of an
advantage here. The ammunition amounts for the nose, top turret, belly gunner,
and two waist positions have altered to reflect historically correct amounts.
The cruising speed of the HE111 has been altered to reach 205 mph with either
no bombs on board or the lighter 110 lbs bombs. The stall speed has been
lowered to compensate for the use of two engines in this conversion and seems
to balance out the relative lack of power this model has when it gets heavily
damaged in combat. Maximum speed values have been changed to reflect a top
possible speed of 256 mph at full power and empty. The entire range of speed
bytes have been altered from the B17 originals.

To use this plane in any German side mission you should first make backup
copies of the original B17F.SPC or B17G.SPC, B17G.PAC, and B17GS.PAC files
that are found in the \AC subdirectory.

Next you should copy the He111.EXP file into the targeted B17 SPC file you
wish to make the He111. Example: COPY HE111.EXP B17F.SPC <ENTER>

Then you should copy the the two He111 PAC files into the B17 PAC files.
Warning: If you have any missions that have both the B17F and the B17G in
them they will both appear as the He111, since both the B17F and B17G use
the same PAC files for the graphic appearance in the game. So after making
this change, any mission that has the He111 and one of the B17 models in it
the B17s will also appear as He111 but function as B17s.

To restore the B17 to normal, you simply copy all the backed up B17 files to
their original PAC and SPC files.

If I discover any new methods of conversion that apply to this radical
modified plane file for SWOTL, I will issue an updated model at a later date
should it prove necessary. Not all the performance specifications of the He111
are 100% accurate, as some of them still elude me in the SPC file.

Hope you all enjoy my new modified plane.
