The A26B Invader was the result of a request from the USAAF for
a high-performance, heavily armed twin engined bomber. The design and
development of the Douglas, due prmarily to the success and experience
with the A-20 Havoc. was very rapid, and the first three prototypes
    were ordered in June 1941.
Of the three prototypes, the XA-26B was selected, but modified
by deleting the 75mm gun (ala the B-25G/H) and replacing it with 6
.50 MGs. Four additional guns were placed in dorsal and ventral
turrets, two guns in each. In addition, the plane could carry 4000lbs
of bombs in an internal bay, as well as having hardpoints for additional
bombs, rockets, fuel tanks, and up to 8 MGs. Two more MGs could also
be mounted in blisters along the fuselage sides, allowing the carriage
of up to 20 (!!) HMGs. For ground attack, the top turret guns could
be locked forward and fired by the pilot.
The Invader began its operational carreer in Europe in 1944, and
until the Vietnam war, its carreer spanning three wars. It was truely
    an outstanding aircraft.

       Notes on installing the A-26B:
You MUST have the P-38 Expansion disk to use this aircraft!!!
-- The A26B.EXP file should go either in your HANGAR or AC directory,
depending on how you handle your plane swapping.
-- The A26B.INT goes into the CP directory.
-- The Ju88a1.PAC and Ju88a1s.PAC files both go into the AC directory.

As a note regarding armament selections:
The A26 carried only 6 guns in its nose, the 'package' (blister)
guns being an option. Due to the limited weapon selection in SWOTL,
the package guns are standard with the main armament.
Also, there are several additional combonations of weapons stores
such as 500lb bombs in both the bay and on the wings, but again due
to the restrictions imposed by SWOTL, only a few of these are
        included.
