The Messerschmitt  Me562-1a


  In late 1946 the German Luftwaffe, having regained aireal superiority over Europe, learned much from their lessons. Seeing that the jet aircraft was the future, they focused all resources towards development of new jets. Messerschmitt emerged as the world leader in this new technology. 
  Utilizing the basic design principles applied in the Me262 and Me362 lines, the Me562 was concieved. It was to be the first fighter aircraft with a cruise speed of over 650 mph, a range of over 1500 miles. New developments aircraft materials, engines, and fuel made this goal attainable.
  First flown by Adolf Galland himself on October 18, 1946, the Me562-1a exceeded all requirments by a comfortable margin.
